In this class students are introduced to contemporary
cross-cultural learning and training in America. This learning is
used in schools, public administration, social work settings and private
enterprises in America to increase
communication skills, mutual understanding and effective learning/working
relationships among people of diverse backgrounds. After examining basic
concepts such as culture, race, ethnicity, values, stereotypes, ethnocentrism
and cultural relativity, we look at ideas about cultural sensitivity and
cultural competence. Students will gain an insight into current thinking
about culture, race, diversity and cultural awareness in American society.
